Mountnessing Windmill

In Mountnessing, off B1002, off A12, about 3 miles north east of Brentwood.

A post mill with a 16-sided roundhouse and tailpole winding. Built in 1807 and worked commercially until 1924. Restored to working order by Essex County Council in 1983. Mills flour occasionally. Received an SPAB plaque in 1996.

Opening times

April to September, third Sunday in each month, 14.00-17.00. Parties by appointment. Essex County Council will endeavour to open some of its mills not normally open to the public on heritage open days in September. Please telephone nearer the time, or see the Heritage Days booklet produced by the Civic Trust.

National Mills Weekend opening times

Sunday only, 14.00-17.00.
