New Abbey Corn Mill

About 7 miles S of Dumfries, on A710, in New Abbey. Follow brown signs.

This watermill dates from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and worked until the late 1940s. It is the successor of the monastic mill of Sweetheart Abbey, and is now in full working order. The mill is in the care of Historic Scotland.

Opening times

April to October, daily, 09.30-17.30.(to 16.30 in October). November to March, Monday to Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday, 9.30-16.30. Milling demonstrations 12.00 & 15.00.

National Mills Weekend opening times

Saturday and Sunday, 09.30-17.30. Milling demonstrations 12.00 & 15.00.
