Hergest Mill, Kington

Location

Grid reference: SO288561
OS sheet: 148
Postcode: HR5 3EL
From Kington church go down Hergest Road for ½ mile; mill is on left.

An 18th century building on an ancient site, formerly fed by a long leat from the river Arrow. Most of the main internal iron machinery survives, having been replaced in the mid 19th century. Part of the timber framing on the ground floor is much older. The fixed, lower millstones of the 4 pairs are still in place. There were once two overshot wheels in line, but these, the water supply and the ancillary machines have gone.
