Clapton Watermill, near Crewkerne

3 miles SW of Crewkerne, on B3165 Lyme Regis road.

This 4-storey mill was built around 1860 on an earlier site. Worked commercially until 1991. It has a 21ft 6in waterwheel, fed from two streams, both breast and overshot. There are four pairs of stones, a 6-break Armfield roller plant and a Ruston Hornsby oil engine. Recently installed hydro-electric plant alongside mill.
