Finzean wood-working mills

On the Forest of Birse road, W of B976 at Finzean, midway between Banchory and Aboyne.

Two sites comprising three mills with a total of four wheels:

  1. Bucket Mill. NO 578 912. A single storey, timber-built 19th century wood-turning mill, with a 13ft 6in start and awe wheel, restored in the 1980s, which made wooden buckets.
  2. Finzean sawmill & turning mill. NO 591 916. Dating from the early 19th century, comprisng three wheels; a sawmill with a 14ft 6in wheel, a turning mill with a 9ft 8in wheel, and a generator with a smaller wheel, all fed though an impressive system of lades.

Now owned by the Birse Community Trust.
